«Come in, buy, eat, love»
In the heart of Chamberí, we find the iconic Vallehermoso market. It was inaugurated in 1933 and is considered one of the oldest in the capital.
There are many establishments that stay here, a total of 62, and there is something for all tastes. From the stalls that facilitate, at a good price, everyday shopping for the residents of the neighborhood: fishmonger, butcher, greengrocer... To those that encourage gatherings of neighbors and/or friends: small restaurants with multicultural gastronomic proposals, or establishments that offer good wine and craft beer.
Ultimately, a very interesting mix between the traditional food market and the more traditional stores. good gourmet food. Not content with this, they also have a very interesting leisure activities program.
Furthermore, this year has been a year of change for the market, and they have renewed their image and corporate identity, and They have inaugurated something that is new in Spain, a fixed producers' market; thus promoting the values of the collaborative economy.
The Producers Market has been promoted by the “Harvest Day” association. This is new in Spain, but it is common in other countries, such as the United Kingdom. It is made up of 22 small food artisans, from the Community of Madrid; and Its philosophy is based on providing quality food, using traditional processes, at a fair price and coming from an area of no more than 120km from the market.
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful things about the market is the symbiosis that occurs in it. Since the raw materials sold are those used in restaurant establishments.. But also as a customer you can taste "in situ" both the raw materials themselves and those already cooked.
The wide gastronomic and restaurant offering of this market, as we already mentioned, is something that impresses. With the crisis the market was greatly affected, but they have managed to make it rise from the ashes and now be at its maximum splendor. In fact, last September four new establishments joined together: Vermut and Amen (traditional vermouth, pinchos and tortilla), Craft 19 (American artisan beer and sandwiches), Oliva (Jaén oil and local products) and Picón (Canarian specialties).
We recommend you go to see their establishments, see the Producers' Market and try everything: both the fresh products from the garden and the processed ones; have a vermouth or a few beers at one of the stalls; try one of its intercultural restaurants; And why not, leave with your purchase made.
