Traditional cuisine in a cosmopolitan atmosphere
Talking about Caray (Hermosilla, 2) is talking about contrasts. This restaurant, located a few meters from Colón, has only been in existence for a few months, and already has earned the essential label among those who call themselves 'foodies' or those of us who like good food, as I prefer to call ourselves. Caray is a perfect combination between traditional gastronomy, which advocates good treatment of raw materials, and a modern and cosmopolitan environment that opts for turquoise and gold tones as predominant colors.
The entrance, well guarded by a beautiful girl at the reception, serves as a preview of what one will find in Caray: a modern space and professional staff with good treatment. Inside we find a large bar where you can drink some of the cocktails that are prepared there with mastery. Beyond the space dedicated to the art of mixology, we found a good number of tables with another good number of padded seats that gave our meal a welcome comfort.
The atmosphere we found when we went, on a Monday at lunchtime, was mainly executive, with a lot of men in suits who gave the impression that they were talking about numbers, balance sheets and commissions. The fact that Caray is located in a business area means that we find business men and women there, obviously. Nevertheless, At night they assure us that Caray lowers the average age and the atmosphere is much more modern and ideal for spending great moments with friends or intimate dinners with that special person.
Once seated and with the menu in hand, we see that Caray offers traditional cuisine, which boasts preferential treatment of raw materials, avoiding mixing many ingredients in the same dish to preserve the original flavor of the food. So, don't expect to find great fusions or endless names of dishes, in Caray they have quality cuisine based on simplicity as their main weapon.
We start with an aperitif of gazpacho, softer than usual but with an impressive flavor and texture. Ideal so that the guts began to roar and the flavor of the garlic did not camouflage that of the next dishes. He was followed by ortiguilla croquettes (€10), very creamy and with a different flavor, recommended. We continue with the deer jerky with cherry pesto (11,50), with the strong taste characteristic of deer and an unmistakable flavor. Before getting to the main courses we finished the starters with a shrimp meatballs, with an exquisite flavor.
The main dishes we chose, and very good, were the Iberian Presa mille-feuille, a sure hit for carnivores, and the red tuna tartare (€22,5), a delight and a dish of which I cannot be objective because it is one of my favorites, impressive. Every good meal should end with a good dessert and this was the case thanks to the Chocolate donuts (7€) and the creamy cheese with blueberries (7€), two sweet delights that put the crown to a meal fit for kings.
